Really to call this work stamping would be incorrect for these ornaments are actually hammered as it took considerable skill on the part of the hammer man to nurse the metal down into the die and many of these men were very clever indeed. This system was used for the making of ornaments used on the mansard roofed buildings and it was basically a zinc and copper business.
The buildings in France at that time were made largely of stone and all of the stone ornament had to be carried up and tremendous supporting members had to be introduced to connect the stone ornament.
